Web and Blog Editor

By requirement of Article VII, Section 2(i) of the Society Constitution, Article III, Sections 4 and 5 of the By Laws and Article VII of the Standing Rules of the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society, a vacancy is announced to all active members of the Society for the position of Web and Blog Editor of the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society. 

This position is salaried – compensation is $300 / month.  This position is not a voting position on the Board of Governors. 
 

QUALIFICATIONS
• The Web and Blog Editor (“Blog Editor”) must be an active member of the Society.
• Demonstrated skill set to perform the duties as noted below.
• Experience managing a blog or experience with a journal is preferred. 

PURPOSE
• The JPTOS Blog Editor serves as an Associate Editor under the direct supervision of the JPTOS Editor in Chief and shall be responsible for developing the Blog of the JPTOS website (“the JPTOS Blog”). The Blog Editor shall accomplish this by maintaining a familiarity of relevant and important topics in the field of IP and use said knowledge to add/manage content on the JPTOS Blog.  The Blog Editor shall perform said duties in a manner that will further the goals of the JPTOS.  The Blog Editor shall seek the guidance of Editor in Chief, JPTOS Board members (“the Board”), and anyone with relevant knowledge. The Blog Editor shall conform all his/her conduct to the JPTOS and PTOS by-laws.
• Familiarity with content management systems and basic understanding of HTML/CSS preferred.
 
DUTIES
• The Blog Editor shall use his/her judgment to determine the suitability of content added to the JPTOS Blog. The Blog Editor shall report all progress on the JPTOS Blog directly to the Editor in Chief.  The Editor in Chief, in turn, shall report progress on the JPTOS Blog to the Board during Board meetings.  If necessary, the Board or the Editor in Chief may summon the Blog Editor to a Board meeting in order to address any questions/issues.  The Blog Editor shall be responsible for the content of the JPTOS Blog.  Content is primarily in the form of blog posts.  Content may also include, but is not limited to: case briefs, news reports, headlines, links, announcements, and audio/visual files.  The Blog Editor will serve under the Editor in Chief.  The Blog Editor must review all content prior to being posted on the JPTOS Blog.  Such review will include, but is not limited to: verifying the accuracy of content; conforming said content to any pertinent legal citation standards (e.g., Bluebook); and ascertaining the value of content to the relevant audience. 

TERM LENGTH
• The employment term for this position is two years.

• This position will be filled by majority vote of the Board of Governors with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors of the Society.
